In addition to this year’s four projects, our chapter of Engineering World Health has offered various volunteering opportunities throughout the year and has collaborated with other student organizations with the same message of improving healthcare in austere environments. This page highlights some of our members’ involvement with Project C.U.R.E., Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and Global Brigades.
The Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment is the largest provider of donated medical equipment in the world, donating to 130 countries. This year, our members had the opportunity to test and repair medical equipment at their distribution center in Melrose Park, Chicago, IL on the weekends, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
This volunteer opportunity is extended to students of all skill levels and provides hands-on experience with circuits, medical equipment, and troubleshooting. Visit https://projectcure.org/ for more information.
Bank of America Chicago Marathon
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon gives members an opportunity to give back to the community. EWH strives to volunteer for the Chicago Marathon every year.
Global Brigades is a student organization that offers programs in various countries aimed to make a long-term impact in the community of choice. Programs offered include public health, medical, dental, and engineering brigades in countries such as Nicaragua, Honduras, and Panama. In collaboration with the UIC chapter of Global Brigades, members if EWH-UIC will partake in an engineering and public health brigade in the winter of 2016.
